Murdochville Copper Mine DECOMMISSIONING
/ CONTEXT Delsan AIM was contracted to execute a large-scale decontamination and demolition of a former copper mine.
/ PROJECT This two year project entailed the complete hazardous materials abatement of beryllium dust from all structures under stringent health and safety protocols and the abatement of asbestos-containing pipe insulation and transite building siding throughout the facility, prior to the commencement of demolition operations.
/ Delsan AIM set-up an on-site water treatment facility to collect and treat waste water from cleaning operations as well as worker decontamination facilities in order to ensure the protection of workers, the public and the environment.
/ Delsan AIM employed conventional demolition methods using specialized high reach excavators equipped with shears to demolish all mine structures to grade as well as engineered explosive demolition to lower some of the higher structures to a safe level.
/ Delsan AIM source-separated, processed and shipped to AIM recycling facilities thousands of tons of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals during the course of the project.
